The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) recently participated in a significant event organized by Youth Platform Africa, in their Annual General Meeting held on 3rd May 2024 at Kololo Independence Grounds with over 3,500 youth in attendance. YPA is a youth organization fostering large-scale goat, pasture & bee farming held under the theme “From Agriculture to Agribusiness.” The initiative aims to skill the youth and empower them to transform traditional agricultural practices into profitable agribusiness ventures.
The event brought together young entrepreneurs, industry experts, policymakers, and other stakeholders to share insights, strategies, and experiences in the agribusiness sector.
In her keynote address, Precious Birungi, the Public Relations Officer of the NLGRB, focused on the critical topic of responsible gaming and the importance of prudent financial management. She emphasized the potential benefits for youth when they channel their financial resources into sound and sustainable ventures such as agribusiness, instead of engaging in potentially high-risk betting and gaming activities.
Ms. Jackline Kamakune, the Responsible Gaming Officer elaborated on the concept of responsible gaming, stressing the importance of gambling within one’s means and recognizing the risks of gambling addiction. He provided practical tips on how to engage in gaming responsibly.
Many participants expressed their appreciation for the practical advice and encouragement to consider agribusiness as a promising career path.
The NLGRB remains committed to promoting responsible gaming and financial literacy among the youth. By empowering young people to make sound financial decisions, the Board aims to contribute to their overall well-being and the economic development of Uganda. The NLGRB looks forward to future collaborations with Youth Platform Africa and other organizations dedicated to youth empowerment and sustainable development.
