A Nakuru court has awarded a punter Sh500,000 after a betting firm failed to honor his jackpot win. John Mwangi had staked Sh100 on 12 games on July 18, 2020, and got all the predictions right. However, when he wanted to claim his prize, Betika accused him of breaching their terms and conditions by using multiple accounts and devices to bet. Mwangi denied the charges and filed a lawsuit against Betika for violating their contract. He said he had only used one account and one device to place his bet. The court found Betika guilty of acting in bad faith and withholding Mwangi’s prize without proof. The court ordered Betika to pay Mwangi Sh500,000 plus interest and costs of the suit.
